About Simon:

Simon blends deep subject expertise with a dynamic career background to offer inspiring, high-impact History support for learners from KS3 to A Level. With a First in History from Oxford and postgraduate research experience, he brings academic rigour and storytelling flair to every session — helping students connect with complex topics and build confidence in their ideas. After a successful career in journalism and sports media, Simon retrained as a teacher and now teaches in both state and independent schools. He’s known for outstanding classroom practice, effective assessment strategies, and a calm, motivating presence. His specialisms include Russia, China, and 19th-century reform, and he’s led curriculum redesigns to make History more engaging and inclusive.

Simon is especially skilled in mentoring sixth formers — from Oxbridge preparation and EPQ supervision to building critical thinking and essay technique. He also brings co-curricular energy through clubs like Politics Society, helping learners explore ideas beyond the syllabus and find their voice.
