About Sarah:

Alongside her work as a Dyslexia and Primary Literacy Specialist, Sarah offers therapeutic art coaching for primary-aged children with SEND. This child-led, self-directed approach uses art and play as a means of communication, reflection, and growth, creating a safe and supportive space where children can express themselves freely and develop at their own pace.

Sarah’s therapeutic art coaching supports children in developing language and communication skills, strengthening social interaction, and building emotional awareness and regulation. Through creative exploration, children are encouraged to develop a sense of agency, confidence, and self-worth, helping them feel more connected to themselves and others.

With over 30 years of experience working both inside and outside the school system — including roles as a primary class teacher, SENDCo, and specialist one-to-one tutor and coach — Sarah brings deep understanding, sensitivity, and professionalism to her work. While she is not an art therapist or art psychotherapist, which are protected titles, her practice is grounded in decades of experience working with children and the arts, supported by extensive specialist training and ongoing professional development

Approach:

 🎨 Child-led, creative, and self-directed
🧠 Neuroaffirming and trauma-informed
🤍 Strengths-based, supportive, and confidence-building

Philosophy:

Sarah believes that learning and growth happen when children feel safe, seen, and supported. Taking a neuroaffirming, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach, she prioritises connection, curiosity, and trust over pressure. Her aim is to empower children to express themselves, build resilience, and develop a strong sense of self through creativity and play.
